What is the member time commitment?

The member time commitment is 3 hours every 4 weeks, or 13 shifts a year.

Can my partner/housemate work my shift?

Yes, of course. Often it is the case that one person has more availability in a household. We encourage cooperation!

Can I work my shift with my children?

No, we are sorry. Due to hazards on-site and limited space, children on shift are not generally a good idea.

What do I do about childcare, then?

Until the co-op has created a space for childcare onsite, we will be extending work shift credits to any member doing childcare for another member while he/she is working. This applies within a household as well as out. Once we do have childcare, members will be trained to work in pairs doing childcare for other working members.

What happens if I have to miss my shift?

If you have to miss a shift, please post a note at the co-op with the time, date, letter week, and nature of your shift. We do anticipate being able to post shift swaps on our website in the future. It is best for you to swap with someone who does the same shift on a different week. If you have been unable to fill your shift, call the office as soon as possible, so that we may try to find someone.

Do I have to make-up a shift that I missed?

If something comes up last-minute and you miss your shift, you will be asked to do a make-up shift. (You will need to complete your shift before your next shift cycle comes up.) this make-up can be done at any regular shift time. You may check in with the office to find available openings.

I have an erratic schedule, what if I can't be available for the same shift every 4 weeks?

We encourage seasonal employees, and those with irregular schedules to apply for our FTOP program. (Future time off program) This allows you to bank hours in advance of your absence.

How do I apply to do FTOP team work?

Members doing FTOP committee must be members-in-good-standing, and be willing to do a variety of different tasks. Please contact the membership office to join this committee.

How does FTOP work?

FTOP work credit hours are like an hours bank, but must be accrued in advance of the current shift cycle. So, if you know you will be gone in July, you will need to have 2 shift credits in advance of your absence. (One for the current month, and one for July) Not really sure about implementing this one.

FTOP committee members must fulfill the same number of hours that other members do, but will be able find holes in the shift calendar to fill. Members working FTOP shifts must arrive at the shift starting time. Please see the membership office for available shifts.

Can I cancel my FTOP shift?

FTOP committee members may cancel their scheduled shift and re-assign themselves up to two days prior to their shift.
